The Park Community School Barnstaple Commercial Installation
Project Overview Camel Glass took on the significant task of enhancing the external aesthetics and functionality of the East Block building at The Park Community School originally built in 1964. This project was part of a comprehensive external refurbishment aimed at modernising the facility while ensuring energy efficiency and longevity. The scope of work included the installation of replacement PVC windows, specialised solar control glass, custom-manufactured commercial aluminum doors, as well as facia, soffit, and cladding updates.
Before:

Challenges and Objectives The East Block building, being a high-traffic area at the school, faced challenges due to outdated windows and external wear. Our primary objectives were:
- Improved Energy Efficiency: Reducing heat gain and loss to maintain a comfortable internal temperature year-round.
- Enhanced Durability and Safety: Ensuring all installations met modern safety standards.
- Modern Aesthetic: Refreshing the building’s appearance to align with the school’s visual standards.
- Minimal Disruption: Completing the project with minimal impact on the school’s day-to-day operations.

Solutions Implemented
- Replacement PVC Windows with Solar Control Glass: To tackle energy efficiency, Camel Glass installed high-quality PVC windows fitted with solar control glass. This choice provided excellent thermal insulation while minimizing glare and solar heat gain—perfect for maintaining comfort in classrooms throughout different seasons.
- Custom Commercial Aluminium Doors: Fabricated at our specialised Holsworthy branch, these doors were designed with durability and accessibility in mind. The aluminum construction not only enhanced the structural integrity but also matched the building’s updated design.
- Facia, Soffit, and Cladding Installation: To complete the refurbishment, we installed new facia, soffit, and cladding, giving the East Block a fresh, cohesive look. These components were chosen for their low-maintenance qualities and weather resistance, ensuring the school would benefit from their installation for years to come.
Results and Impact
- Aesthetic Transformation: The East Block building now boasts a modern, cohesive appearance that complements the school’s overall architecture.
- Energy Savings: The use of solar control glass has already begun to show positive effects, with reports of improved temperature regulation and reduced reliance on heating and cooling systems.
- Enhanced Safety and Accessibility: The newly installed doors meet all current safety standards and improve access for students, staff, and visitors.
- Sustainability and Longevity: The selected materials ensure that the school will experience reduced maintenance needs and long-term durability, aligning with eco-friendly practices.

Client Feedback The school administration expressed their satisfaction with the project, highlighting the professionalism of the Camel Glass team and the seamless transition from the old, inefficient windows and fixtures to the modern, upgraded installations.
Conclusion The East Block building refurbishment stands as a testament to Camel Glass’s commitment to quality, precision, and client-centric solutions. This project has not only met the school’s immediate needs but has also set a standard for future renovations, combining aesthetic appeal, energy efficiency, and durability.
