Architectural glazing for a home in Rock, Cornwall
This residential project in Rock brings together a varied glazing package, including curtain walling, aluminium windows, TrueVUE sliding doors, walk-on glass floor panels and frameless glass balustrade. A timber entrance door completes the combination of materials.
The range of products makes this home a useful reference for architects and homeowners considering how different glazing elements can work together within one property.
Curtain walling, aluminium windows and sliding doors
Curtain walling forms part of the architectural glazing, alongside aluminium windows and TrueVUE sliding doors.
For projects combining these systems, early consideration of frame proportions, opening arrangements and adjoining materials helps create a consistent appearance. Thresholds, drainage and connections to the surrounding structure also need to be coordinated with the wider building design.
Walk-on glass floors and frameless balustrade
Walk-on glass floor panels are a distinctive feature of this Rock project, adding another application of glass beyond windows and doors.
For architects considering structural glass flooring, the supporting construction, intended use and glass specification are essential parts of the design discussion.
Frameless glass balustrade also features within the project, providing a visually light approach to guarding. Its specification should be considered alongside the fixing details and supporting structure.
A timber entrance door
The timber entrance door introduces a different material alongside the aluminium and glass. Entrance doors offer an opportunity to give a home its own identity through proportions, finish and detailing.
