Behind the Glass: A Day in the Life of Our Wadebridge Installation Team
When it comes to installing a new front door, what you see at the end is only part of the story.
Behind every finished installation is a process — one that relies on experience, precision, and attention to detail. In this edition of Behind the Glass, we spent the day on site with our Wadebridge fitters, Cobi and Giles, as they carried out a composite door installation from start to finish.

Starting the Day on Site
The day begins like most for our installation teams — arriving on site, preparing tools, and assessing the job ahead.
No two properties are ever the same, and even a straightforward door replacement requires careful planning. Before any work begins, measurements are checked, access is considered, and the existing door is assessed to ensure a smooth and efficient installation.
Removing the Existing Door
The first stage of the job is removing the old door and frame.
This isn’t just a case of taking it out — it needs to be done carefully to avoid damage to the surrounding structure. Our team ensures that brickwork, internal finishes, and thresholds are protected throughout the process.
Once removed, the opening is cleaned and prepared, ready for the new installation.
Preparing for the New Installation
Preparation is one of the most important parts of the entire process.
The new frame is positioned, levelled, and checked multiple times to ensure it sits perfectly within the opening. Even the smallest inaccuracy at this stage can affect how the door operates long term — from locking performance to weather sealing.
This is where experience really matters.
Installing the New Composite Door
With the frame secured, the new composite door is installed and aligned.
Every detail is checked:
- Smooth operation of the door
- Alignment of hinges and locks
- Consistent gaps around the frame
- Secure and precise fixings
The goal is simple — a door that not only looks right but performs exactly as it should.
The Finishing Touches
Once the door is installed, attention turns to the finish.
This includes:
- Sealing internally and externally
- Ensuring weatherproofing is fully achieved
- Cleaning down the installation area
- Final checks on operation and security
It’s these final details that make the difference between a good installation and a great one.
What Homeowners Don’t Always See
From the outside, a new door can look like a quick upgrade.
But behind the scenes, there’s a level of care and precision that isn’t always visible:
- Ensuring the frame is perfectly level
- Achieving a tight, weatherproof seal
- Making sure locks engage smoothly
- Leaving a clean, professional finish
These are the details that ensure your door performs for years to come.
