Behind the Glass: Meet Matt Martin, Window and Door Surveyor
In the latest instalment of our Behind the Glass series, we meet Matt Martin. Matt works as a window and door surveyor at our Holsworthy branch.
Matt joined Camel Glass 11 years ago as a fitter’s mate. He gained valuable experience working alongside our installation teams. He then progressed into his current surveying role.
In the accompanying video, Matt talks about his journey with Camel Glass. He also explains what happens during a survey and what makes our Holsworthy branch unique.
Practical experience behind every survey
At Camel Glass, our surveyors come from practical installation backgrounds. They combine technical knowledge with first-hand experience of working on site.
Matt understands what our fitting teams need before they arrive at a property. His experience helps him spot potential challenges and confirm the correct specifications. It also helps him prepare each project for manufacture and installation.
Our surveyors provide an important link between customers, fitters, architects and builders. They help everyone understand the project requirements and keep the installation running smoothly.
What does a window and door surveyor do?
A window and door surveyor carries out a detailed technical assessment before installation.
During the survey, Matt measures each opening and checks the property. He also reviews access arrangements and installation requirements.
The survey helps us manufacture each product to the correct size and specification. It also helps our fitting teams complete the installation safely and efficiently.
Matt will consider any relevant building regulations, health and safety requirements and site conditions.
What happens during the survey?
Every property is different. However, a typical survey will cover several important areas.
Taking accurate measurements
Matt carefully measures each opening. These measurements help ensure that the new windows, doors or glazing products fit correctly.
Accurate measurements reduce the risk of problems during installation.
Identifying potential issues
Matt checks for anything that could affect the project. This may include access restrictions, the condition of the existing openings or unusual building features.
Spotting these issues early helps prevent delays and unexpected complications.
Confirming the specification
Matt reviews the order details with the customer. This includes the design, colours, finishes, opening styles and hardware.
This gives customers another opportunity to check that every detail is correct. It also helps ensure that the finished products meet their expectations.
Checking access
Matt assesses how our fitters will reach the installation area. He also checks whether the team will need specialist equipment or additional preparation.
This information helps our fitting teams know what to expect before they arrive.
After the survey, our team can finalise the technical details and prepare the project for the next stage.
Matt’s advice for customers
Matt recommends preparing any questions before the survey appointment.
The survey is the ideal time to discuss the finer details of your project. You can ask about designs, measurements, access or installation.
You should also tell the surveyor about any specific requirements for your property. Our knowledgeable team can then talk through the available options with you.
Discussing everything during the survey helps avoid confusion later. It also gives everyone a clear understanding of the project.
